- No purchase necessary. Contest is sponsored by North Jersey Media Group Inc., publisher of The Record and Herald News. Contest runs from September 20 – October 28, 2009. Contest is open to all legal U.S. residents, except (a) professional photographers, and (b) officers, directors, and employees of North Jersey Media Group Inc., 6th Avenue Electronics City , and their respective parents, subsidiaries, affiliates, and agencies, and the immediate family members and/or persons living in the same household as any of the foregoing individuals.
- There are two entry methods.
Method 1: Complete the official entry form and attach your travel photograph(s) and submit by mail to: Travel Photo Contest, 1 Garret Mountain Plaza, P.O. Box 471, Woodland Park, NJ 07424. Entry forms will be available in The Record and Herald News on 9/20, 9/27, 10/4, 10/11, 10/18 and 10/25 in the Travel section. Entry forms can also be picked up in the lobby of North Jersey Media Group, 1 Garret Mountain Plaza, Woodland Park, NJ 07424 from 8:30am – 5pm (Monday – Friday). Copies of entry forms for additional entries are permitted.
Method 2: Submit entries electronically by completing the entry form available at www.northjersey.com/photocontest, and submitting through the website. Photograph(s) being entered must be attached to online entry form.
All entered photographs must be photographs taken by an amateur photographer. Photograph(s) can be in color and/or black and white.
- All mailed entries must be postmarked by October 28, 2009. All online entries must be received by October 28, 2009 at 11:59 p.m. E.S.T. Do not send original photograph(s). Photographs will not be returned. Submitted photograph(s) must have been taken in 2008 or 2009.
- For mailed entries, each photo must be marked/labeled with name, address, telephone number, location where photo was taken, a brief sentence about the photo, the date on which the photo was taken, and assigned to one of the following categories:
a. Domestic – Enter photo(s) taken within the United States
b. International – Enter photo(s) taken outside of the United States
c. New Jersey – Enter photo(s) taken of destinations in the Garden State
d. The Road Less Traveled – Get creative! Enter any photo(s) that expresses your individuality or your unique view of the world.
Photographs for the mailed entries must be prints; maximum size is 8” x 10”. For online entries on the website, all fields must be completed with name, address, telephone number, e-mail address, location where photo was taken, a brief sentence about the photo, the date on which the photo was taken, and entrant must enter the photo to one of the categories mentioned above. All photos must be in JPEG format and at least 2 MB each, which would ensure that photo(s) meet minimum resolution requirements. Photos that fail to meet minimum resolution requirements will be ineligible.
- Entry limit is ten photographs per category per entrant. Any entry exceeding that limit will be disqualified.
- North Jersey Media Group Inc. is not responsible for lost, stolen, incomplete, misdirected, late, ineligible, illegible, damaged, incorrect, or postage-due entries, unavailable network connections, failed, incomplete, garbled, or delayed computer transmissions, on-line failures, hardware, software, or other technical malfunctions or disturbances or other communications failures or circumstances affecting receipt of entries or ability to participate in the contest. All entries become the exclusive property of North Jersey Media Group Inc. and will not be returned.
- A total of nine (9) winners, consisting of one (1) overall grand prize winner, four (4) first prize winners (one in each category identified in paragraph 4), and four (4) second prize winners (one in each category identified in paragraph 4), will be selected.
One (1) Grand Prize Best in Show – Overall winner will receive one (1) Samsung LN32B460 32” 720p LCD TV
Value: $540.93
Four (4) first place winners will each receive one (1) Canon DC320 DVD Digital Camcorder.
Value: $248.00 per winner
Four (4) second place winners will each receive one (1) Panasonic DMC-FS15K 12.1MP Digital Camera.
Value: $200.00 per winner
Limit one prize per person. Winners will be selected from all eligible entries received on or before the deadlines set forth above in Paragraph 3.
- Winners will be selected by a panel of judges consisting of editorial and/or photographic personnel who are employees, agents and/or representatives of North Jersey Media Group Inc. The panel of judges will select the best travel photos in the following categories: Best in Show – Overall, Domestic, International, New Jersey, and The Road Less Traveled. The panel’s decisions on all matters relating to this contest are binding and final. Judging is based on the creativity, composition, and photo quality of the photograph(s).
- Winners will be notified by phone at the phone number on the entry form by the week of November 9th. Winners, or, in the case of winners who are minors, the parent or legal guardian thereof, are required to complete and return affidavit of eligibility/ liability release/license within one week of notification. If any winner fails to respond within the specified time period, that entry will be void and an alternate winner will be selected according to the same standards set forth in the paragraph above. For a list of the prize winner(s), send a self-addressed stamp envelope to: North Jersey Media Group, Marketing Department, 1 Garret Mountain Plaza, Woodland Park, NJ 07424. Requests must be received by April 30, 2010.
- By entering contest, entrant warrants that each submitted photograph is entrant’s own original creation, executed solely by the entrant; has not won any other award; has not been published previously; and is not subject to any rights of any other parties, and entrant warrants that he/she has obtained all necessary permissions from any third party who appears, or whose property appears, in the photograph. Entrants not complying with these requirements and entries contested in any manner will be subject to disqualification in the sole discretion of North Jersey Media Group Inc. Entrants must be prepared to provide a signed release from all persons who appear in the photograph submitted, and/or from the owner of any property that appears in the photograph entry, authorizing North Jersey Media Group Inc. and 6th Avenue Electronics City and their licensees to reproduce, distribute, display and create derivative works of the entry. Entrant irrevocably licenses to North Jersey Media Group Inc. permission to publish the photograph any number of times for any purpose and in any media now known or hereafter invented. North Jersey Media Group Inc. shall have the right to use, assign, edit, modify or dispose of the photograph however is seen fit, without the approval of entrant.
- Acceptance of prize also constitutes a grant to North Jersey Media Group Inc., its successors and assigns, of winner’s irrevocable consent to reproduce and publish the photograph(s), to edit the photograph(s), to create derivative works thereof, to republish the photograph(s) an unlimited number of times in any publication formats or media, including all electronic media and any other medium now known or hereafter invented, and the right to sublicense any and/or all of these rights.
- Entry constitutes agreement to hold North Jersey Media Group Inc, 6th Avenue Electronics City, and each of their respective parents, subsidiaries, and affiliates, and the officers, directors, employees, , and agents of each of the foregoing entities, , harmless from and against any and all damages, liability, losses, and expenses arising out of, or claimed to be arising out of, this contest, acceptance or use of the prize(s), and/or any use, in any manner, of any entry materials by North Jersey Media Group Inc. and/or 6th Avenue Electronics City and/or their licensees. North Jersey Media Group Inc. reserves the right to terminate or change this contest at its sole discretion if it becomes aware of any event that could materially affect its security or fairness.
- All prizes will be awarded. No substitution, transfer, exchange or cash redemption of prize(s) is permitted except at the sole discretion of North Jersey Media Group Inc. North Jersey Media Group Inc. reserves the right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value. Winners are solely responsible for all applicable taxes and/or fees. Winners of prizes valued at $600 or more are required to file a 1099 tax form. Prizes awarded to minors will be delivered only to the minor’s parent or legal guardian, and only upon timely receipt of Affidavit/Release signed by minor’s parent or guardian.
- This contest is subject to all federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Void where taxed, restricted or prohibited by law.
- Entry constitutes agreement to be bound by all the foregoing rules and terms and by the decision of the judges, and by entering this contest, entrants agree to irrevocably grant North Jersey Media Group and its successors and assignees the non-exclusive right to reproduce (and to authorize other to reproduce) their photograph(s) in any medium, either now known or hereinafter devised, and entrants agree to forego any payment or compensation for such rights , without requiring any prior further consent from entrants, except where prohibited by law. Entrant agrees that North Jersey Media Group and/or 6th Avenue Electronics City and/or their designees may publish his or her name and hometown along with the photo whenever any photo is used.
- All winners will be notified by phone prior to having his or her winning photograph(s) published. Entry also constitutes permission to use the winner(s) name and likeness for promotional purposes except where prohibited by law, and to use, without compensation to or additional approval from the entrant, the entered photos in an exhibit at a place and time to be announced later.
